World of Warcraft - Item Upgrading
The upgrade option lets players increase the gear rating of an item up 700 points, and then add a bonus. Items can be upgraded if they're in your inventory and you decide to take them to the kiln.
Certain items can be upgraded to benefit from their unique stats (like a perfectly made breakpoint armour that can be rolled to use in melee PvP) and others, like weapons, do not change significantly after an upgrade, so they aren't worth upgrading.
Weapons
Weapons can be upgraded to increase their numeric stats such as the chance to crit, attack damage as well as PvE and damage to PvP. Weapons have a flat-rate bonus that increases damage per second. Some weapons also have a fixed bonus which is activated when three or more identical weapons are equipped in a unit.
